There is no doubt that music is a great self healing
technique. Irrespective of our religious or cultural backgrounds all of us love music and are touched by every rhythm of it. One of the ways to
heal the mind and body is with the help of musical instruments. We can grab any musical instrument and sit at any corner playing and singing our
heart out! If you know the benefits of playing a musical instrument, you will certainly understand how important it is for your child’s life.
Playing a musical instrument has many benefits especially when done with the help of a right brain activity called Musical Empathy.
I have been keen to let my child discover the world of music through the activity of musical empathy. This activity is based on feeling every
rhythm through the musical instrument given to a child. The child then reciprocates with his or her level of understanding of the science and
world around us. Now what happens is that the child is able to listen, engage and grasp the music leading to the stimulation of multiple brain
areas. I could see the love for music oozing out of my little one’s eyes which deemed to be the right choice for her overall development. Being a
cranky child, this added to her emotional quotient as it very subtly enhanced her brain pattern.
Let us understand some of the benefits that will bring out a sense of appreciation and pride for music in all of you:
Optimisation of brain functions which aids memory power, coordination, listening skills with a touch of emotional quotient.
Each brain function is stimulated thereby increasing the analysing power as music helps the child to unwind. Visual, auditory and motor areas are enhanced.
Enhanced communication as the child is able to understand and express well. Social interaction is thus refined with the counterparts.
Exposed to various cultural backgrounds and different musical genres.
Elevates mindfulness which helps increase the listening skills in a child.
The touch of music in the ears increases the activity and volume of the “corpus callosum” (the bridge between two halves of the brain). This creates synergy between the two hemispheres of the brain.
Gives a sense of achievement as it is only through music that children are able to find themselves.
